About Freeurl

Freeurl is a free URL shortener. You paste a long web address, and you get a short one that is easy to share in messages, posts, emails, slides and print. That is the whole idea, and we try to do it well.

Why we built it

Most link shorteners start free and then wall off the useful parts: stats behind a paywall, a handful of links per month, branded domains only on expensive plans. We wanted a shortener where a small business, a teacher or a creator could get custom aliases, QR codes, click analytics and their own domain without a card on file, and without tracking people along the way.

What you get

  • Short links with custom aliases, optional passwords and optional expiry dates
  • Click analytics: clicks by day and hour, countries, devices, browsers and referrers, shown in your own time zone
  • Your own domain for branded links, with step-by-step DNS help
  • Free tools that need no account: a QR code generator, a UTM builder, a link analytics checker and a link unshortener

How we keep links safe

Short links are a favorite hiding place for phishing and malware, so safety is part of the product, not an afterthought. Every address is checked when it is created. We block known bad sites, links to program files and private network addresses, and we hold unusual links for a quick review. Anyone can report a link, and reports that pile up on one link disable it until we have looked.

How we treat your data

We store what we need to run the service: your account details, your links and a record of each click that shows only a country, a city if available, a device type and a browser. We do not store full IP addresses next to clicks, and we never sell personal data. Our privacy policy explains the details in plain language.
